Tourism – Speech by Laurent Fabius on “Training excellence in the tourism sector: a key challenge for France” (Paris, October 16, 2015)

Laurent Fabius will deliver a speech on “Training excellence in the tourism sector: a key challenge for France” on October 16 at 10:00 am at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne.

This event is being organized by the association AsTRES, which brings together a dozen higher education institutions with recognized training programs and research in the field of tourism.

In his speech, Laurent Fabius will underscore the need to increase the national and international visibility of our training programs. On October 8, during the first national tourism conference, he announced the creation of a “consortium to deliver quality training in tourism” in order to provide a more structured approach to our efforts.

In conjunction with efforts to improve the welcome extended to tourists, develop digital technologies and promote investment, training is one of the four main elements of the “carré du succès” [four keys to success] defined by Laurent Fabius on June 11.

Climate – Conference entitled “Climate: Women are getting involved!” (Paris, October 16, 2015)

Laurent Fabius will host the conference entitled “Climate: Women are getting involved!” at the Quai d’Orsay on October 16 in the presence of Marisol Touraine, Minister of Social Affairs, Health and Women’s Rights and Pascale Boistard, Minister of State for Women’s Rights.

With just a few weeks left until the opening of the Paris Climate Conference, the goal of this event is to increase awareness of the role of women in the mobilization against climate disruption.

At the end of the conference, Danielle Bousquet, Chair of the High Council for Equality between Women and Men, Catherine Coutelle, Chair of the Women's Rights Delegation of the National Assembly, and Chantal Jouanno, Chair of the Senate's Women's Rights Delegation, will present the ministers with a text on “Women, actors in the fight against climate change.”

Climate – Mediterranean / Opening by Annick Girardin of the symposium on “Intercultural dialogue and cooperation in support of a sustainable Mediterranean” (Paris, October 15)

On October 15, at the National Assembly, Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophony, opened a symposium on “Intercultural dialogue and cooperation in support of a sustainable Mediterranean,” organized together with the Anna Lindh Foundation and the Union for the Mediterranean.

The Anna Lindh Foundation, which was established in 2004 by the 43 member countries of the Union for the Mediterranean and the European Commission and is led by Elisabeth Guigou, Chair of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee, aims to promote intercultural dialogue.

With just a few weeks left until the opening of the Paris Climate Conference, Annick Girardin reaffirmed the importance of this dialogue in building a peaceful and mutually supportive Mediterranean space and responding to climate challenges.

Myanmar / Burma – Signing of a ceasefire agreement (October 15, 2015)

France welcomes the signing on October 15 of a ceasefire agreement between the Burmese authorities and several armed groups.

This is an important step in the peace process initiated almost three years ago in Burma.

We call on the parties to continue on the path of dialogue, which is the only way to restore trust, ensure the protection of minorities and bring peace to the entire country.
